A unit

Living Room

Before  and after

This unit was bland and impersonal as many home units tend to be. The use of colour and design rather than expensive structural alterations completely transformed this unit to a warm and inviting home.

I choose a white for the walls and ceiling and a timber floor.  I wanted to bring out the energy in this apartment by use of accessories such as paintings and furniture.  When you have a narrow space I always find work with white and add colour.  I had a small insert placed in the wall near the stair case which I painted green to give a little extra interest.

The careful selection and placement of wall hangings and furniture provides the balance and symmetry essential for personal well being.

The difference is dramatic, and did not involve major alterations and expense.  The total renovation for this property was only $27,000.00.  What did the apartment receive a totally new kitchen, new tiles, shower screen and makeover in the bathroom.  New floor throughout, painted throughout and new window dressings.  The new balastrading for the staircase made a massive improvement and it was not that expensive.

It all depends on where you purchase your items and the tradesmen you employ.

This property has now increased in value by $200,000.00.  Not bad for a small investment.

Kitchen

Before  and after

While this kitchen had a modern appearance it completely lacked harmony and balance. It was an unpleasant room to be in.

We used colour to make the archway between the kitchen and the rest of the unit a feature entrance which not only welcomes you to enter but invites you to do so. The almost clinical white cupboards and floor tiles were replaced with warm timber and earth tones.

The end result is the transformation from a harsh almost clinical room into a warm and inviting kitchen.

Bathroom

Before  and after

This bathroom completely lacked any appeal. Nothing matched and it was completely out of balance and harmony.

We replaced the shower doors with crisp clean white door with a slimline frame, replaced the tiles with larger white ceramic tiles and maintained the height from inside the wet area around to the wall above the vanity unit. We replaced the vanity unit, and added a splash of bold green with the mirror frame and the vanity door.

The green diagonal tile on the wall is a subtle element of balance to tie the wet area to the rest of the room. It provides a link with the green mirror frame ant the vanity door. Elegant new white bathroom fitting complete the room.

Stairs

Before  and after

This picture shows the original entrance to the kitchen in the background. Bare brickwork in an unpleasant and jarring pattern. We used bold colour to highlight the kitchen entrance and to make it a feature.

We removed the carpet from the stairs and replaced it with tiles and replaced the timber stair rails with wire balustrade. The ceramic floor tiles were replaced with warm timber flooring and the careful placement of furniture completes this area.

The end result is a complimentary mix of colour, design and texture which transformed a dark and uninviting area into a bright and balanced area.
